摘要
Rotary-type pumps such as centrifugal pumps or axial-flow pumps are called turbo pumps in general. The technology trend regarding turbo pumps for artificial hearts is reviewed first. Secondly, the selection of pump types is discussed, based on specific speed. Then, performance limitations for different pump types are discussed, including impeller tip speed limitations, which gives constraints to pump size and rotational speed. Finally the possibility of fluid dynamic causes concerning hemolysis is discussed.
