Direct growth of carbon nanotubes on the surface of ceramic fibers

摘要
The growth of aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes on the surface of ceramic fibers (SiC and alumina) using chemical vapor deposition method was investigated. Scanning and transmission electronic microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the carbon nanotubes. It was found that the nanotubes obtained from the alumina fibers had a very smooth surface. It was observed that the diameter of the carbon nanotubes grown on alumina was smaller than for those which were grown on SiC fibers, and most were bent to one side of the alumina fibers.
