摘要：

The concept of maternal immunization to prevent infectious diseases during a period of increased vulnerability in the infant is supported by historical experience and carefully conducted studies of various viral and bacterial vaccines. As more vaccines for potential use during pregnancy become available, the possibilities to design and implement disease prevention strategies for the protection of young infants increase. Past and current experience, controversies, and future challenges of maternal immunization are reviewed in this article.
