Treatment algorithms in treatment-resistant depression

The application of systematic approaches to the management of treatment-resistant depression has become increasingly important as the number of available therapeutic options for mood disorders has grown. The assessment of adequacy of prior treatment, strategies for augmentation of failed antidepressant trials, the role of monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and oi-her aspects of a logical and scientifically informed treatment algorithm approach are reviewed.
