摘要
The new structure powder diffractometer (SPODI), currently built up in the experimental hall of the FRM-II in Garching, near Munich, is optimised to achieve high-resolution diffraction at high neutron flux with good profile shapes. Highly developed components, such as a composite monochromator, three different collimators in front of the sample and a position sensitive detector enable a usage of the instrument in various configurations. This contribution gives an insight in instrumental variations to optimize the diffractometer. Monte Carlo simulations were performed to figure out the influences of sample height, sample collimation, detector height and wavelength on flux, resolution and profile shape. Based on these calculations, the most suitable instrument configuration for a specific task will be selected. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
