Angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in limb ischemia

When the concept of therapeutic angiogenesis was launched, the complexity of angiogenesis and arteriogenesis were underestimated. Today most researchers believe that simply adding vascular growth factors to an ischemic area is not sufficient for effective therapeutic angiogenesis. While the mechanisms involved in these processes are starting to be revealed, their effect on the pathophysiology of limb ischemia needs to be further clarified.
