摘要
The gastrointestinal tract has an essential role in normal immune function. The ontogeny and physiology of neonatal gut immunity are discussed. Because the gastrointestinal tract serves as the portal of entry for many potential antigens, breakdown in mucosal defense mechanisms could lead to potentially life-threatening conditions, such as necrotizing enterocolitis, milk-protein enteropathy, and intestinal infections. Proposed immune-mediated mechanisms and possible treatments for these conditions are reviewed.
