Lattice effect in the metal-insulator transition in CMR manganites

摘要
The atomic pair density function (PDF) of La1-xSrxMnO3 determined by pulsed neutron diffraction shows that the local structure significantly deviates from the average structure. In particular, the Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion locally persists even when the crystallographic structure shows no evidence of JT distortion. The existence of the local JT distortions is directly related to the formation of lattice polarons. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
