Cavitation resistance improvement of IRECA steel via laser processing

摘要
The surface of IRECA steel, a cavitation resistant alloy, was remelted using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser and tested for its resistance to cavitation jet erosion. The weight loss was compared to those of the conventional as-cast specimens. The microstructures of specimens were examined and related to the steel performance under cavitation jet erosion. This study indicates that the erosion resistance of the laser processed steel was improved, the weight loss rate being decreased by more than 300%.
