Time-resolved predetonation absorption spectra of silver azide were measured using the "spectrum per pulse" technique. An analogy is observed between the behavior of the absorption spectra at the initial stages of explosive decomposition and radiolysis. From the character of the spectra it is inferred that during the explosive decomposition of AgN3 the formation of N-2(-) radicals precedes the formation of N-4(-) radicals.
