摘要
This work discusses the current state of the art in the modeling of granular flows in mixing processes. A quick review of both continuum- and discrete-based models is first presented, and the focus is then put on the discrete element method (DEM), which has recently proven worthy of interest for the mixing of granular materials. Theoretical and practical aspects of this method are discussed, as well as new ideas to enable the simulation of more and more complex mixing systems. Numerous examples are presented throughout the paper to illustrate the applicability and the limitations of a DEM-based model. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
