Crystal field excitations in the low-dimensional quasi-triangular lattice compound Ce2Ge2In

摘要
The structural, magnetic and thermal properties of Ce2Ge2In have been investigated between 0.36 and 300 K. The specific heat exhibits a peak and the AC susceptibility exhibits a weak anomaly at 2 K, whereas neutron diffraction does not show any signs of long-range magnetic ordering down to 0.36 K. Inelastic neutron scattering at 17 K shows two well-defined crystal field (CF) excitations at 11.6 and 20.1 meV, indicating a doublet CF ground state of the Ce3+ ion in agreement with the entropy similar to R ln 2 at 10 K derived from the heat capacity data.
