Structural design of superconductors based on complex copper oxides

Structural criteria required for several copper containing high-temperature superconducting oxides (HTSC) is demonstrated by studying the relations between their composition, structure, and their properties. The proposed study particularly demonstrated the structural modifications of anion sublattice upon substituting halogen atoms for oxygen that can modify the structure of a complex cuprates and can yield the potential high-temperature superconductors. The chemical criteria was attempted to design for the properties such as a layered structure in which CuO2 layers represented an infinite network of copper-oxygen CuO4 squares connected by their vertices. An anionic-deficient pervokosite-like ABO2 structures or compounds with intergrowth structures, which represent most well-known superconducting complex copper oxides, was synthesized for the study.
