摘要
Purpose Investigation on stimulating effect of seed coating with algal homogenate formulations in the initial growth phase was performed. Methods Dried Baltic seaweeds (Enteromorpha sp. and Cladophora sp.) were homogenized and, then, two emulsion concentrates were prepared, one of which was enriched with minerals. Both formulations were investigated in the germination tests on spring wheat seeds. The utilitarian properties of seed coating were verified by fresh plant mass, sprout height and root length measurements, comparing to non-treated cultivation. Water content in plant tissue was determined, as well. Results Each of applied formulation dose was proved to affect both sprout and root development. No statistically significant differences between experimental and control series were shown, though. The greatest results of sprouting were given by samples treated with pure homogenate formulation, while mineral enrichment promoted higher root growth. Tissue water content was comparable in all experimental cultivations and its effect on sprouting was not statistically significant. Conclusions Active compounds contained in seed-coating formulation stimulated seed germination. Thus, further research is required to find an optimal applying dose. Future tests will also verify algal homogenate activity against most common abiotic and biotic stress conditions.
