The electrochemical capacitor performance of the mesoporous carbons, which were prepared by templating technique, was investigated. The synthesis of mesoporous carbons involved the impregnation of different mesostructured silica materials with furfuryl alcohol. The porous structure of the carbons was analyzed by N2 and CO2 physisorption. The sample carbons were used as electrodes in supercapacitors. The results show that carbon materials with a narrow pore size distribution around 3 nm and particle size in the nanometric range are specially adapted for the electrodes of electrical double layer capacitors (EDLC) in aqueous media, as they combine large amount of energy with high power density.
