Infrared and Raman spectroscopic measurements were performed in order to investigate the 90%[xB(2)O(3)(1 - x)Bi2O3]10%MO glasses structure, where MO = Fe2O3 and V2O5, with different Bi/B nominal ratios (0.07 <= x <= 0.625) and to obtain valuable information about the competitive role of the component oxides in the formation of the glass network. The individual influence of Fe2O3 and V2O5 on the B2O3 and Bi2O3 structures and the local order changes around the constituent cations were studied, revealing significant structural modifications that occur when V2O5 replaces Fe2O3.
