Anesthetic considerations in the geriatric patient

The physiological changes that occur as a result of the aging process impact greatly upon the anesthetic management of the geriatric patient. Knowledge of these changes and adjustment of anesthetic requirements accordingly is essential for the anesthesiologist. Zn the geriatric population, the anesthetic consideration for surgery is equally as important as the surgical consideration, and good communication between the patient, the family, the urologist, and the anesthesiologist can make the entire surgical experience a successful one that achieves the desired outcome.
