摘要
Hearing impairment can have deleterious effects on both the child and the family. Early identification and intervention are keys to reducing the negative effects. Although the average age of identification of hearing impairment appears to be lowering in the United States, due in large part to UNHS, early identification still needs to be truly universal. Identification is just the first step. Optimal follow-up is critical. To ensure the best possible outcomes for children who have hearing impairments, pediatricians and audiologists must work together to establish and maintain effective lines of communication.
