Smoke from fires contains several toxic gases, such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, the inhalation of which is the principal mechanism by which fires kill or bring about injuries. In connection, a considerable research on combustion toxicity has been done but no satisfactory picture of all the key mechanisms and factors has been developed, thus, the requirement for more research.
