Water as a medium can promote various old and new reactions. The types of reactions that can be carried out in water are as diverse as those in nonaqueous conditions. The proceeding of such aqueous reactions implies that many protection may be curtailed. Thus, organic synthesis in water can significantly reduce the number of steps when designed properly. The opportunities of pursuing unconventional chemical reactivities provide the driving force for future innovation of the field and in chemistry as a whole.
