Utilization of a cobalt carbonyl cluster carboxylic acid in the isolation of novel titanium(IV) oxo alkoxy carboxylates

The reaction of (CO)(9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCOOH) with Ti(OR)(4) results in the formation of Ti(IV) oxo alkoxy carboxylates exhibiting new structural forms: R=Et, Ti-6(mu(3)-O)(4)(mu-OEt)(8){mu-(CO)(9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCO2)}(4) (1); R=Pr-i, Ti-4(mu(3)-O)(4)(OPri)(4){mu-(CO)(9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCO2)}(4) (3); R=Ph, Ti-4(mu(3)-O)(4){mu-(CO)(9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCO2)}(4) (5); reaction with Ti(OPri)(2)(1,2-O2C6H4) yields Ti-6(mu(3)-O)(2)(mu-O)(2)(mu-OPri)(2)(OPri)(2)(O2C6H4)(4){mu-(CO)(9)Co-3(mu(3)-CCO2)}(4) (4). Observed stoichiometries and structures reflect the effects of a metal cluster relative to organic substituents.
