Measuring self-leadership: Psychometric test of the German version of the Revised Self-Leadership Questionnaire

A short German version of the Revised Self-Leadership Questionnaire by Houghton and Neck (2002) was examined with regard to scale properties, reliability (internal consistency), and validity (construct and criterion-related validity) in three studies with a total of N = 850 subjects. The German questionnaire (RSLQ-D) measures nine first order factors with three items each that constitute three second order factors (behavior focussed strategies, natural reward strategies, and constructive thought pattern strategies). After modification of the RSLQ-D, the psychometric qualities were acceptable. Moreover, results confirmed the assumed nine factorial structures. Indications for criterion validity were obtained by the prediction of school grades, that showed an expected link to self-leadership strategies in two subsamples. In conclusion, the RSLQ-D is a reliable, construct-valid, and economic measure of self-leadership.
