Co/V interface anisotropy and interlayer exchange coupling in (V/Co)(n)/Au(111) stackings

摘要
We precisely measured in ultrahigh vacuum the polar magneto-optical Kerr rotation theta(K) of perpendicularly magnetized hcp Co(0001) ultrathin film on Au(111), versus the thickness t(V) of a V overlayer. V grows with its stable bcc structure, and a [110] texture. We observe a complex variation of theta(K) at the initial stages of V coverage, and a high perpendicular V/Co interface anisotropy. Above t(V) = 3 AL, the interlayer exchange coupling through V in Co/V/Co trilayers displays a decreasing antiferromagnetic behaviour, with indication of a superimposed oscillation of period around 4 AL.
