Optimal batch process development

The rapid development of efficient batch processes is critical to the specialty chemicals industry, yet it has received little academic attention. An industrial batch process development example is presented to demonstrate both the scope of the problem and the benefits that can be achieved from the application of process modeling technology. A prototype methodology that utilizes modeling technology to exploit processing tradeoffs during the development of batch processes is then introduced.
