This Letter uses Liapunov's method, as modified in Dynam. Stabil. Syst. 15 (2000) 3, to obtain bounds for trajectories of the Lorenz system. It is also intended as a guide to the efficient choice of Liapunov functions. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
