Multihydroxyl branched polyethers by cationic copolymerization of hydroxymethyl oxetanes: copolymerization of 3-ethyl-3-(hydroxymethyl) oxetane with difunctional oxetane

摘要
A possible route for the synthesis of multihydroxyl branched polyethers with various molecular weights and functionality is described. It was found that copolymerization of 3-ethyl-3-(hydroxymethyl)oxetane (EOX) with appropriate amounts of difunctional oxetane (diEOX) leads to products with higher molecular weight than polyEOX obtained under similar conditions. The same effect may be obtained by reaction of polyEOX with diEOX. It was shown that the higher molecular weight fraction is formed by coupling of the initially formed polyEOX macromolecules with diEOX molecules. (C) 2003 Society of Chemical Industry.
