摘要
The solvation shell of OH(-) ions in water is explored by analyzing neutron diffraction data with hydrogen isotope substitution within the empirical potential structure refinement framework. Upon solvation, the OH(-) ions form nonplanar hydrogen bonds with four water molecules, giving (H(9)O(5))(-) complexes. A fifth water molecule weakly bound to the hydroxyl hydrogen is also found.
