Decomposition and crystallization of bulk amorphous Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 alloys studied by small angle neutron scattering

摘要
The thermal stability of the bulk amorphous alloy Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 was studied by small angle neutron scattering (SANS) at temperatures up to 700 K. Isothermal annealing above the glass temperature of 622 K leads to a decomposition of the undercooled liquid which is described by Johnson-Mehl-Avrami kinetics with an exponent of 2.8 +/- 0.2. At 623 K a microstructure of precipitates of an amorphous phase with a radius up to 3 nm embedded in a second amorphous phase and separated from each other at 8.5 nm is formed. Decomposition was found to enhance the stability of the supercooled liquid against crystallization.
