Mean free time for excimer light emission in conjugated polymers

摘要
We show that the long mean free time for light emission from excimers in poly(phenylene vinylene), PPV, and its derivatives, compared to that for excitons in these materials, is due to the transition from the excimer state to the ground state being forbidden due to like parity. A finite transition probability is nevertheless obtained due to the thermal vibrations, which mix in states of odd parity. We estimate the mean free time for excimer emission in cyano-poly(phenylene vinylene), CN-PPV. We find:it Likely to be much longer than previously considered.
