摘要
A new Amphora species, Amphora calumeticoides, from Lake Tanganyika, is described on the base of light and electron microscopic investigations of its frustule morphology. It resembles A. tanganyikae, another endemic Amphora species from Lake Tanganyika, but differs in the wing on the dorsal side of each valve. Similar wing structure is also known from A. calumetica. The ecology and the possible function of the wing structure are discussed. The wings may provide extra lateral stability, as already suggested for A. calumetica. The larger size of the wings in the new described species can possible be an adaptation to periods of very strong monsoon winds in Lake Tanganyika.
