Coexistence of superconductivity and localization in Bi2Sr2(Ca-z,Pr-1-z)Cu2O8+y

Charge transport in insulating and superconducting samples of Bi2Sr2(Ca-z,Pr-1-z)Cu2O8+y is analyzed in terms of the Hall mobility mu(T) = R(H)(T)/rho(T). Insulating samples (z less than or equal to 0.5) show a crossover from a hopping between localized states at low temperatures (d mu(-1)/dT < 0) to a delocalized metallic regime (d mu(-1)/dT > 0) at high temperatures. For hole contents just sufficient to obtain superconductivity (z > 0.5) we still observe such a minimum in the inverse mobility, although the resistivity rho(T) is purely metallic (d rho/dT > 0). This indicates that the Cooper pairs are formed by states which are spatially localized.
