Photodissociation dynamics of gas-phase C-60 probed by optical emission spectroscopy

摘要
Fragmentation of gas-phase C-60 after 193 nm laser excitation at 300 mJ/cm(2) fluence is probed by optical emission spectroscopy. Atomic C emission at 247.85 nm, and Mulliken, Deslandres-D'Azambuja, and Swan bands from C-2 species are observed. Time-resolved experiments reveal prompt C and C-2 fragmentation on a ns time scale or less, and delayed C-2 release on a mu s scale. The latter is a pathway for energy relaxation in C-60,whereby delayed electronically excited C-2 fragments are subsequently deexcited by photon emission.
