Diabetes affects nearly 16 million Americans and often causes severe complications and premature death. The economic cost of diabetes alone approaches $100 billion annually. We discuss the national war against diabetes and review and analyze systems for measuring progress in this war, ii framework for making use of these systems is proposed along with an answer to the question: How will we know if we are winning?.
