摘要
The influence of argon and oxygen plasma treatments of the polymer surfaces on the electrical and electroluminescent properties of poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) light emitting diodes (LEDs) has been studied. It was observed that mild Ar plasma treatment of the polymer prior to deposition of the cathode could reduce the electroluminescent intensity of the PPV LED by an order of magnitude. Similar results were observed for the oxygen plasma treated samples. Attempts were made to correlate this plasma-induced degradation phenomenon of the electroluminescent properties of PPV with changes in the surface chemical structures of the polymer, as revealed by the angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
