Characteristics of a bolt-clamped torsional vibrator using shear-mode piezo-ceramics sandwiched in the axial direction

摘要
A torsional vibrator using shear-mode piezo-ceramics sandwiched in the axial direction was developed by NEC Corporation for a mechanical filter 20 years ago. This torsional vibrator has a good vibration performance. We apply this torsional vibrator to a high power transducer shaped as a short cylinder with a large diameter. In this case, the torsional vibrator can easily be fabricated by bolt-clamping in its radius direction, and the small number of parts is a benefit in the fabrication. We report here results of FEM analysis and the characteristics of a prototype of such a torsional vibrator. As a result, it is clarified that this torsional vibrator has a good vibration performance and might be suitable as an ultrasonic high-power transducer.
