摘要：

This review describes the technique of distraction osteogenesis, outlining its application and current developments for the correction of craniofacial anomalies. Also described are some of the difficulties and complications which can arise with speculation on how this may be overcome. Finally, there is an exploration of how this technique might be routinely used to deal with orthognathic, orthodontic and alveolar problems.
