Interaction between two magnetic iron(III) centers through the elemental carbon chain in the complex [Cp*(dppe)Fe-CC-CC-Fe(dppe)Cp*][PF6]2

摘要
Temperarure-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements of the bis[iron(III)] complex [Cp* (dppe) Fe-C=C-C=C-Fe (dppe) Cp*] [PF6](2) (1) and its analog [Cp*(dppe)Fe-C=C-C6H4-C=C-Fe(dppe) Cp*][PF6](2) (2) [Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, dppe = ethylenebis(diphenylphosphine)] showed antiferromagnetic behavior. Isotropic spin only models of the data for 1 and 2 derived magnetic exchange coupling constants of J= -18.2 and -1.0 cm(-1) respectively. The singlet tripler energy gap is sufficiently weak to render the complexes 1 and 2 paramagnetic at liquid nitrogen temperature. (C) Academie des sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
