Investigation of the spontaneous transferability of a phospholipid-poly(ethylene glycol)-biotin derivative from small unilamellar phospholipid vesicles to magnetoliposomes

High-gradient magnetophoresis was used to monitor the spontaneous transfer between phospholipid vesicles and magnetoliposomes of dipentadecanoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DC15PE) and of its conjugate with a biotinylated PEG molecule (DC15-PEG-B). For the latter molecule, a halftime of 70 min was found, whereas DC15PE did not move. The observed transferability of PEGylated phospholipids offers a unique method for generating Stealth (R) -magnetoliposomes. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
