Radial energy distributions in LiF by alpha particle irradiation using Monte Carlo simulation

Monte Carlo calculations of radial energy distributions in LIF irradiated with protons and alpha particles have been performed coupling ion and electron transport according to the scheme proposed by Martin and Ghoniem. Electron interactions are followed in detail as they slow down and transfer their energy along the material. Results for 1, 2 and 3 MeV protons, 1 and 4 MeV alphas are presented. Their comparison with data in tissue-equivalent gas, Monte Carlo calculations performed in water vapour, and analytical calculations in LiF show that important differences arise from the contribution of dielectric energy loss interactions.
