摘要
Biofiltration is an effective means of destroying contaminants present in waste gases generated during subsurface remediation. Potentially, biofilters can be used in the cometabolic destruction of chlorinated organics. Biofiltration columns inoculated with Pseudomonas putida F1 removed between 30 and 60% of TCE using toluene as the primary growth substrate. Biofilter performance appeared to be limited by competitive inhibition, product toxicity, and the enzyme activity and NADH levels within the cells. Aqueous-phase batch experiments were used to quantify the extent of competitive inhibition and the effect of toluene and TCE on toluene dioxygenase enzyme activity. (C) 1998 IAWQ.
