The hydrogen storage properties of MmNi3.8Co0.6Mn0.55Ti0.05 compounds prepared by conventional and melt-spinning techniques

Electrochemical charge-discharge-cycling measurements were made on electrode samples prepared from alloy powders with the composition MmNi(3.8)Co(0.6)Mn(0.55)Ti(0.05). It has been found that, by using the rapid quenching preparation technique, the electrode durability of this hydride-forming compound could be greatly improved at the expense of a little decrease in capacity and lower discharge voltage compared with those of the cast alloy. Rapid quenching also made the activation of the alloy more difficult. With increasing quenching rate, the cycle durability increased, but the capacity decreased. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed that rapidly quenched specimens had different phase structures. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
