High quality NdBaCuO melt textured grains (maximum size 5 x 5 x 2 mm(3)) with T-c = 95.7 K (Delta T-c < 0.6 K), J(c) (0 T, 77 K) > 60 kA cm(-2), B-irr > 8 T have been prepared via an isothermal route. Effective stoichiometry control of Nd1+yBa2-yCu3Ox (Nd-123) has been achieved in the process by the use of an appropriate admixture, a suitable limited oxygen supply and a low processing temperature. Promising process conditions have been derived from an investigation of the stability field of Nd-123 in dependence on composition, temperature and oxygen partial pressure.
