This review illustrates the potential of a new Upright MRI to reveal "occult'' dynamic lesions within the spinal canal and the neural foramina, i.e., pathologic changes that were under-estimated or not seen using recumbent-only imaging. "fmri'' stands for functional MR imaging, mainly of the degenerative and postoperative spine, although it may also detect post-traumatic instabilities and malformations.
