Spectroscopic cathodoluminescence studies of additive free zinc oxide and varistor ceramics

摘要
Spectroscopic cathodoluminescence (CL) microscopy of pure polycrystalline zinc oxide and doped zinc oxide based varistor materials has been carried out in a scanning electron microscope. Differences in CL spectra were observed as a function of sample composition, sintering conditions and location within the sintered pellet. Additionally, variations in the spectra were observed between the grain cores and the grain boundary regions in coarse grained materials and are associated with changes in the defect structure and free carrier concentration of the zinc oxide.
