Distance measurement with phase-stable CW radio link using the Chinese remainder theorem

摘要
A system which can simultaneously provide coherent local oscillator (LO) signals and a precise measurement of distance over a radio link by measuring the phase of continuous signals is described. Ambiguities ill distance caused by inability to count integral numbers of wavelengths are resolved by the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT). This is the first application of the CRT to counting wavelengths. Because wavelengths are contiguous, no error is introduced.
