On the non-Gaussian noise in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers

摘要
The non-Gaussian character of the probability density functions (pdf's) of binary signals dominated by signal-spontaneous and spontaneous-spontaneous beat noise in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA's) is experimentally verified and their impact on the operation of decision circuits in optically preamplified digital receivers discussed.
