Synthesis of nanoparticulate zirconia by mechanochemical processing

摘要
The various mechanochemical reaction systems that have been developed for manufacturing ultrafine powders of pure and stabilized zirconia were investigated. It was found that reaction occurs either gradually during milling by mechanical activated combustion or only during post-milling heat treatment, depending on the exchange reagent used and the presence of inert diluents. Gradual reaction with hydroxide exchange reagents yielded amorphous powders whereas combustive reaction gave powders with the tetragonal structure. Reaction with oxide exchange reagents formed crystalline powders with either the tetragonal or monoclinic structure.
