During the last 2 decades intensive development work was carried out into organic conductors world-wide. The initial problem encountered in respect of the processability of organic conductors has only recently been solved. Following this, industrial applications can now be opened up for these materials. A commercially available product 3,4-polyethylene-dioxythiophene (PEDT), has been introduced which satisfies highly stringent requirements in terms of its combination of conductivity, stability and transparency. One application in which this new polymer can be used is in the antistatic treatment of plastics. This article describes treatment of this type, taking the coating of photographic film as an example.
