A 103 W erbium-ytterbium co-doped large-core fiber laser

摘要
We report a highly efficient cladding-pumped erbium-ytterbium co-doped large-core fiber laser, generating up to 103 W of continuous-wave output power at 1.57 mum with a beam quality (M-2) of 2.0. The overall slope efficiency was 30% (40% at low powers) with respect to the launched pump power. A roll-off in output power was observed at higher powers caused by the onset of co-lasing at similar to1.06 mum due to the increased ytterbium-excitation at high pump powers. Our result highlights the impressive power capacity of erbium-ytterbium co-doped fibers. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
