摘要
Metacat, a network-enabled database framework for integrating heterogeneous data was described. The system can be used to store, query and retrieve XML documents with arbitray schemes in SQL-compliant relational database systems. It is extensible and flexible to preserve utility and interpretability working with future content standards. The framework's open-source-based components are easily available and individual sites can customize the system to support their data and metadata needs.
